The top of the shock should be squared off. You can get a wrench or a pair of vise grips to hold it while you loosen the bolt.

Jack up the front enough to get the tires off
Remove tires
Support truck with jackstands under frame
Remove jack
Your front suspension should now be hanging
Remove top nut by holding flat spot on stud with open end wrench
Remove 3 nuts holding on shock tower (accessed through wheel well)
Remove shock tower
Remove bottom bolt (flag nut on back side makes this easier)
Remove shock through engine compartment
Reverse procedure to install
Hanging the suspension is key to easy front shock replacement.

Look in through the wheel well, there is a regular nut that is welded on the "shield" part of the shock. It is a lot easier than trying to use the very top portion of the shock with vice-grips or a very small wrench. As long as you leave the bracket bolted down the wrench will hold itself in place going in through the wheel well.
I have dual shocks up front the 1 inside side the coil and then another on the outside that has ends like the rear shocks, would I use this same procedure to get to the center shock?
Extra set of hands can compress shock with the tower on it, once its compressed takes little effort to hold it there, just one push down the other start the 3 nuts. No reason to take tires off unless your doing it solo. I pushed my Bilsteins down with 2 hands, held it with one hand, and then started the nuts.
